Djimon Hounsou Honored with the Prestigious 400 Distinguished Award.

On August 23, 2025, actor and humanitarian Djimon Hounsou received the prestigious 400 Distinguished Award from the 400 Years of African American History Committee of the National Alliance of Faith and Justice. This award recognizes individuals for their lasting contributions to preserving, promoting, and honoring the African American experience over four centuries Mr. Hounsou was recognized both for his portrayal of Cinqué in Steven Spielberg’s Amistad and for his humanitarian work through the Djimon Hounsou Foundation (DHF).

Founded to reconnect the African diaspora with the continent, DHF advances cultural education, health and wellness, and initiatives such as Run Richmond 16.19—an annual event that harnesses sport and storytelling as powerful tools for racial reconciliation and healing.
