Djimon Hounsou Foundation

Our vision for RUN RICHMOND 16.19 is to commemorate the achievements & sacrifices African Americans have made to our nation and to celebrate Unity in Diversity through a symbolic course of 16.19K and 6.19K.

This event takes our participants on a meaningful journey that lets them experience +400 years of Black History – from the landing of the first slave ships to contemporary murals created in the aftermath of the George Floyd protests which powerfully express the experiences, expectations and hopes of our black brothers & sisters.

As one of the three homes to the Reconciliation Statue, Richmond thereby joins the cities of Liverpool (UK) and Ouidah (West Africa) in becoming a host city of the AFRICA RECONNECT Event Series organized the Djimon Hounsou Foundation.

Our series aims to strengthen Pan-African identity, reconnect the African Diaspora with their origin, roots, and motherland & raise funds to combat modern-day slavery.
