A Reflection

For there is always light, if only we’re brave enough to see it. If only we’re brave enough to be it. – Amanda Gorman

Enter TIME TO HEAL

The effects of centuries of  systemic racism, oppression, and discrimination have led to deep-rooted historical traumas that show up in many individuals, specifically African Americans as dismembered and White Americans as disembodied.

Time to Heal is a restorative community healing practice that addresses the deeply rooted inter-generational traumas caused by slavery & racial oppression. It connects us as one, promotes understanding, compassion, and forgiveness, and imagines a way toward reconciliation and collective healing.

This free community event connects us to our shared history, roots & culture. It will take place at the “Ground Zero of African American History”, right in the heart of Shockoe Bottom in Richmond, Virginia. Formerly the 2nd biggest slave market, home of Devil’s Half Acre and the African American burial grounds, this place has an energy that reflects the pain and injustices of its past. It is right here that you will encounter the Reconciliation Statue, a monument that represents a powerful apology for the unspeakable horrors and lasting consequences of slavery. Its inscription beautifully summarizes our intentions:

Acknowledge and forgive the past. Embrace the present.
Shape a future of reconciliation and justice.

As the steady beat of African drummers forms a human heart beat and grounds your breath, we envision a future of equity and inclusion … all the while an ancient libation ceremony connects us back, … all the way back to the motherland. Africa.
